Evanil (17) on seitsmeaastane imearmas vend Will, kes armastab väga E.T. filmi. Ja parim sõber Ali. Ta peres on hetkel kõik üsna halvasti: isa läks pere juurest ära, ema saab vähidiagnoosi. Evanil endal käivad peal „stormid“ nagu ta neid kutsub (paanikahood). Ja siis hakkab ta kuulma laule, mida keegi teine ei kuule. Esialgu arvab Evan, et need on kuidagi tema paanikahoogudega seotud. Shosh (18) pidi peale gümnaasiumi lõppu minema näitlejaks õppima. Neil oli õega lausa plaan, et õde lõpetab oma ülikooli kiiremini ära ja kolib koos Shoshiga Los Angelesse. Aga peale õe ootamatut surma ei taha Shosh enam midagi, ta lihtsalt on. Koos alkoholiga põhiliselt. Ka tema hakkas ühel hetkel samu laule kuulma ja seal ta nüüd on – pargis ja kohtub Evaniga.

Koos olles suudavad Evan ja Shosh lõpuks elama hakata.
